The Prehistoric Farm tier list

Unranked, dated, and showing its working.

A tier list for a game that launched nine days ago, with no published stats and no visible roster, is a drawing. We have built the board anyway, because the board is a commitment: these are the slots, this is what goes in them, and you can check later whether we filled them honestly.

What a tier would have to be based on

A ranking is only meaningful if it compares things on the same axis. For a farm simulation, there are three axes that matter, and we have none of them.

Method

Inputs required before a dinosaur can be ranked

  • Output per unit of time What the dinosaur produces, and how fast Unpublished
  • Upkeep Feeding cost to keep the belly over half full Unpublished
  • Acquisition cost Fossil set difficulty and time to grow Unpublished
  • The roster itself Species names to put in the rows Unpublished
  • That growth is driven by feeding Official
  • That grown dinosaurs can be ridden Official

How this board will get filled

Three rules, set now so they cannot be bent later.

Two independent measurements. A row moves into a tier when two editors have recorded the same behaviour separately, or when Project Mirvy publishes the figure. One person’s session is a lead, not evidence.

Dated revisions. Every tier change will carry the date it happened. A tier list that quietly rewrites itself is indistinguishable from one that was never right.

Visible reasoning. When a dinosaur lands in S, the note on it will say what it beat and on which axis. “Feels strong” is not a reason, it is a mood.

Until then, the most useful ranking advice we can give is the one the official description already implies: the dinosaur you can actually keep fed outranks the one you cannot. A Newborn stalled at half a belly produces nothing, whatever letter somebody put next to it.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why is your tier list empty?

Because a tier is a claim about relative value, and relative value needs produce rates, growth costs and acquisition difficulty. None of the three has been published for Prehistoric Farm, so every ranking in circulation is an aesthetic preference with a letter next to it.

When will it be filled in?

When at least two of the three inputs exist for most of the roster, either from the developer or from measurements two editors can reproduce. The board will show the date each tier was last revised.

Can I suggest a ranking?

Yes, and the useful form is a measurement rather than an opinion: which dinosaur, what it produced, over how long, at what feeding cost. Send it to the desk.
