Riding is the reward the rest of the loop is pointing at. The official description puts it plainly: grown dinosaurs can be ridden around the ranch and the islands. Four words of it are doing real work — grown, ridden, ranch, islands.
What the sentence tells you
“Grown” is the gate. Riding is not unlocked by a purchase or a quest, it is unlocked by husbandry. That makes the belly meter the actual prerequisite: anything that stalls growth also delays riding.
“Ranch and islands” means it is transport, not a cutscene. A mount you can take to the islands is a mobility upgrade in a game whose core activity happens on islands you travel to. That reframes the whole growth chain as an investment in how fast you can do everything else, rather than as a collection goal.
It is per dinosaur. Each one you grow is its own unlock. Nothing suggests a one-off riding permit that applies to the herd.
How this reshapes a session
If you are early and wondering what to prioritise, the honest answer is that growing your first dinosaur to the point it can be ridden beats starting a second egg. The first mount changes how long every subsequent trip takes; the second egg just adds another meter to watch.
That is a structural argument rather than a measured one — we do not have movement speeds to compare, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. But the shape holds regardless of the exact numbers: a transport unlock early compounds, and a parallel project early does not.
Still to be announced
Whether speed differs by species, whether a mount carries anything, whether riding helps with digging or fishing, whether Elders ride differently from younger adults, and whether sea reptiles can be ridden at all. Project Mirvy has published none of it.
There is also nothing official about riding in the Mosasaurus encounter. The description puts that fight in the water and gives the players spears; it does not mention mounts, and we are not going to connect two sentences that the developer kept separate.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
When can I ride a dinosaur in Prehistoric Farm?
Once it is grown. The official description ties riding to grown dinosaurs rather than to a specific stage name or a level number, so a Newborn is not going to carry you anywhere.
Can every dinosaur be ridden?
To be announced. The description says grown dinosaurs can be ridden, without carving out exceptions, but it also does not confirm that every species qualifies.
Can you ride sea reptiles or swim on them?
Unpublished. Sea-reptile eggs from the Sunken Grotto are confirmed, but nothing official connects them to riding.
