Prehistoric Farm hands you an island and very little explanation. This guide is the loop in the order the developer describes it, with the reasoning for why each step matters — and clear flags wherever the honest answer is that nobody has published the number yet.
The loop, in order
- Step 1
Dig fossils on the islands
The front of the whole game. Release the dig meter in the green for a better find — this is the only technique instruction the developer gives.
- Step 2
Complete a full fossil set
Individual bones do nothing. The set is the unit of progress, so finishing one beats half-filling three.
- Step 3
Take the set to Dr. Ivy's DNA Lab
The lab grows a complete set into an egg. Note that it gives you an egg, not a dinosaur — there is another wait after this one.
- Step 4
Warm the egg in an incubator
Incubation is the only part of the loop that progresses while you are elsewhere, so never leave a slot empty when you head out.
- Step 5
Keep the belly over half full
Growth from Newborn to Elder continues while the dinosaur is fed above half. Let it drop and growth stops.
- Step 6
Ride your grown dinosaur
Grown dinosaurs can be ridden around the ranch and the islands, which makes your first one a mobility upgrade as much as a trophy.
- Step 7
Explore outwards
Bigger boats and new fossil islands, fishing and diving, sea-reptile eggs in the Sunken Grotto, and a giant Mosasaurus fought by a team with spears.
Four decisions that matter early
Finish sets rather than hoarding bones. This is the single most common way to feel stuck. If the game shows which pieces you are missing, that screen is your to-do list; dig against it rather than digging generally.
Never let an incubator sit empty. It is the one timer that runs while you are doing something else. An empty slot during a dig run is wasted wall-clock time you cannot get back.
Grow one dinosaur properly before starting a second. Every extra animal is another belly meter competing for your attention, and the penalty for spreading thin is that nothing reaches the stage where it can be ridden.
Spend on reach before spending on speed. A faster tool improves the sets you already farm. A bigger boat adds islands, and the water adds grotto eggs and a whole second half of the game. That is a structural argument, not a measured one — nobody has published prices on either side — but it holds regardless of the exact figures.
Where to go next
Work through the starter checklist once with the game open — it is this loop as tickable items, saved in your browser. If your releases keep landing outside the green, five minutes on the timing trainer is the highest-value thing you can do today. And if you came here looking for free rewards, the code vault is checked daily and will tell you honestly that there is nothing yet.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What should I do first in Prehistoric Farm?
Dig. Everything else in the published loop is downstream of fossils — the DNA Lab needs a complete set before it can grow you an egg, and you have no dinosaur until that egg hatches.
Is Prehistoric Farm free?
Yes. The experience is listed at zero Robux on its official Roblox page, and it runs on PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation and Meta Quest.
How long does it take to get a dinosaur?
To be announced. The steps are known but none of the timers is published, so any figure would be invented. Time your own and the numbers on this site get better.
